Former Baler Michael Murphy and his North Dakota State Bison will play in the FCS national championship game Saturday in Dallas.
The 14-1 Bison will play Sam Houston State, who is undefeated this year, in the title game. The game is a match up between two teams that were ranked No. 1 nationally.
It is the first time North Dakota State has played in the national title game. But the Bison have won seven Division II championships, but none since 1990.
As the team’s long snapper, Murphy has recorded one solo tackle and two assisted tackles this year.
The championship game is scheduled for 10:05 a.m. Saturday. The game can be found on ESPN 2.
Gav Volleyball
The Gavilan College softball team and staff will hold its sixth annual RAM Softball Clinic 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 14 and Jan. 21.
It will cover fielding, batting and pitching for girls ages 6-16. The cost is $40 per player for one clinic and $70 for both clinics. Each will be held at the Gavilan softball field.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. both days.
South Valley Flag Football
Registration is underway for the South Valley Flag Football League’s winter season.
Dedicated to providing high-quality NFL flag football for boys and girls ages 4-14, SVFFL has run leagues in the Morgan Hill area since 2004. Flag football is five on five, no-contact and emphasizes skills development, equal playing time, life lessons and teammwork, plus it’s a lot of fun.
The cost to play is $110 for 10 games plus the player combine, end-of-season jamboree and an NFL logo jersey, T-shirt, flags, shorts, socks and more.
Register at www.svflagfootball.net. Parents can register online then mail in payments. Payment and mailing information is included on the registration form. Registration closes Sunday.
Little League sign-ups
In-person sign-ups for Little League are scheduled at Sacred Heart Gym Jan. 7
Sign-ups are scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
On Jan. 7, sign-ups begin at 9 a.m. and finish at 1 p.m.
