The Spring Shop Hop is scheduled for Saturday. For the inaugural Shop Hop event before the holidays, more than 60 local businesses participated and they raffled off 11 baskets full of local products or gift certificates. There were 722 entries from shoppers on the day of the event. The spring event will be more of the same, and many businesses have signed up. Residents can shop and win free delicious wines, gourmet chocolates, gift certificates to spa treatments, new fashions, yummy restaurants, computer tune ups and more! The more shops you hop, the more chances you get to win one of 15 amazing raffle baskets with prizes contributed by these generous local organizations.

Paint the town Purple

The Hollister Relay for Life committee is working on plans to “Paint the Town Purple” May 1, as a kickoff the annual Relay For Life, which will be held in August. Businesses, residents and schools are encouraged to decorate using the color purple or to dress in purple hues to show support for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.  As part of the kickoff, a dove release in honor of those who have battled cancer will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. at the Hollister Veterans Memorial Courtyard. Cinco de Mayo

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on May 4, at 5 p.m., with Mexican food, arts and crafts at San Juan School. There will be games for the entire family. This event is sponsored by the San Juan E.L.A.C. Committee. All proceeds to benefit San Juan students.

Saddle Horse parade

The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is accepting entries for the 2012 Saddle Horse Show Parade, scheduled for June 21, in downtown Hollister. The parade is limited to 80 entries, and forms are due June 15, by 4 p.m. Entry fees are $30 for single entry or vehicles, $50 for two vehicles, or free for public safety or local school marching bands. California Indian Market

The 28th Annual California Indian Market will be held May 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at the San Juan Elementary School soccer field, at The Alameda and Hwy. 156. The event will feature Native American, Cowboy, Western and wildlife arts and crafts. There will be a show featuring dancers celebrating Cinco de Mayo as well as food. Save the Music pancakes

Mr. Ostenson’s Save the Music Drive will host three pancake breakfasts at R.O. Hardin Elementary School, 881 Line St., in Hollister, May 5 and 19, from 8 to 11 a.m. The May 5 event will feature solo ensembles by elementary school students. The May 19 event will feature the elementary jazz band. The proceeds will benefit the elementary and middle school music programs. Details: www.savehollistermusic.org.
