to raise funds for youth and family programs in Hollister.
Chili cookoff: The Salvation Army will sponsor a Chili Cookoff to raise funds for youth and family programs in Hollister. Contestants can pick up an entry form at 910 Buena Vista Road by May 12. Awards will be given for the best four chilis. The Cookoff will be at 5 p.m., Saturday, May 15. Entry to the event costs $5 for adults, $2.50 for children and contestants can enter for free. Car wash: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will host a car wash fund-raiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17 at the medical plaza on 930 Sunnyslope road. Proceeds from the event will sponsor a girls summer camp. Call 637-9495 for more information.

County Historical Society: will hold its monthly general meeting at our new time at 7 p.m. on April 28 at the Dunne Park Club House located at Sixth and West streets. Our guest speaker will be Verona Flint, who will share some history of Barber Bottles and “go with” collectables. She will also bring a selection of her extensive collection.. The meeting is free of charge and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

‘Return to Glory’: Hollister Airmen’s Association invites all aviation enthusiasts to attend a fun and informal evening on Thursday, April 15, at Straw Hat Pizza, 191 A San Felipe Road. Dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. and a speaker and program will begin at 6:45. Speaker Bill Dietzel, retired USAF, will share a video and tell the story of a B-29 saved from China Lake Naval Weapons Center. Dietzel towed the 148-foot wingspanned aircraft 38 miles across the Mojave Desert in four days. Each person is responsible for their own menu selection and check. Preschool: The Hollister Methodist United Church Preschool will be holding registration for the 2004-05 school year on Thursday, April 15, for returning and waiting list students beginning at 8 a.m. Alumni families (families who have attended the school before) will begin registering at noon. New families to the school will register on Friday, April 16, beginning at 8 a.m. Registration is done on a first come, first serve basis. Classes are offered for children 3 to 5 years of age. They need to be potty trained. The preschool also offers a six-week summer program, which can be registered for at the same times. For more information, call the school at (831) 637-0440.

County Musical Festival: Local public school students will perform at the annual San Benito County Music festival at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, April 15 and 16. Choral and Jazz ensembles will perform at Rancho San Justo Middle School Gym Thursday. Band and Orchestra performances will be held San Benito High School Gym on Friday. More than 600 students will perform at the annual event.
