Sweets and Wines: The Hollister Downtown Association presents Sweets and Wines of San Benito County on Saturday, March 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building. Tickets are $7 pre-sale and $10 at the door. Wine tasting is an additional $10 and includes a new event glass.

LULAC Forum: Candidate and issues forum sponsored by the League of United Latin American Citizens will be held Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building Annex and will be moderated by Richard Ybarra.

United Way: The United Way of San Benito County announced its annual call for funding requests. Agencies and organizations meeting critical human needs of San Benito County residents are encouraged to apply. Forms are available at http://www.unitedwayofsbc.com/where.htm. Moving Wall: The Hollister Independence Rally Committee and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hollister Post 9242 is announcing the Moving Wall exhibit to be on display at the old Fremont School from June 30 to July 5. The memorial will be open around the clock. HIRC and the VFW are looking for volunteers to help setup the event and the manning of the memorial around the clock. Jr. Teen America: The Western States Jr. Teen America Scholarship is looking for a girl representative from Hollister age 10-13 to participate in the pageant to be held May 15-16 in Bellevue, Wash. Jr. Teen America is a nonprofit organization and the pageant is based on scholastic achievements, community service, talent and communication skills. Path of Excellence: Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage announced its second annual scholarship program benefiting students in Silicon Valley high schools. Ten students from Santa Clara and San Benito county high schools will earn a $2,000 scholarship. Students interested in being considered for the scholarship program should talk to their guidance counselor or principal. The deadline for returning applications is Friday, March 12.

Bonfante Gardens: Bonfante Gardens is looking for people to join their Docent population. Previous horticulture experience of any sort is a bonus, but definitely not a requirement. Red Hot Revue: The City of Gilroy Community Services Department and John Bisceglie present a 1920s style multi-media spectacular at Gilroy High School Theater, 750 W. 10th Street in Gilroy through Sunday, Feb. 22. Evening performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. There will be two matinee performances each Sunday at 1 and 5 p.m. Admission is $10. COG Meeting: The Council of San Benito County Governments has scheduled a public hearing to discuss transit needs within San Benito County and the community is encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the San Benito County Board of Supervisors Chambers, 481 Fourth St.

Candidates Forum: The 19th annual Candidates and Issues Forum will be held Thursday, Feb. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the City Council Chambers. The forum is presented to provide an impartial venue for exposure to important issues and to meet the candidates who are running for public office on March 2. Library Meeting: The next Friends of the Library Board meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 19 at noon. The meeting will be held earlier to see if that time would be more convenient for members to attend.

Early Voting: For voters wishing to vote before Tuesday, March 2, San Benito County elections will be open Saturday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The deadline for applying for an absentee ballot is Tuesday, Feb. 24. Project Linus: Project Linus San Benito Chapter is celebrating National Blanket Day on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the United Methodist Church, 521 Monterey St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hand made blankets, yardage goods and yarn will be collected. Book Sale: Friends of the Library book sale will be Saturday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. behind the library and the Historical Society at 470 Fifth and Monterey streets. New and used books on health, mystery, religion, romance, science, Spanish, special collections and travel are available. Donated books and tapes are appreciated also. Cork Equity: Customers are given the opportunity to drop by the winery and fill, cork and label their own bottles of wine. Bring your own clean bottles or buy them for 50 cents from the winery.
