‘Going Green’ episode features three guests in January

“Going Green” host David Huboi will be hosting the next episode on Jan. 24, on the public access channel. This show is made possible by CMAP, (Community Media Access Partnership) and is sponsored by the San Benito Chamber of Commerce.

This month’s guests include: Mike Gallagher of Watt Electric Inc. to present a new FHA loan program that allows people to finance their solar installation using their mortgage; Julie Morris, executive director of Community Vision San Benito to discuss the input gained from their last public workshop; Kate Woods, former newspaper columnist, artist and author of “Quicksilver Chronicles.” Huboi said Woods will talk about ongoing problems of environmental contamination at New Idria and the role of the Environmental Protection Agency in clean up efforts.

Jason Retterer promoted to partner

L&G, LLP announced that Jason Retterer, manager of the firm’s land use practice, is now a partner.

“Jason is an outstanding legal professional with years of experience and a wealth of expertise. We are very fortunate to have him on our team, and I’m pleased to make him a partner,” said Jeffery Gilles, L&G principal and managing partner.

Retterer has 12 years of experience representing public and private entities on a variety of complex land development transactions and land use litigation. Most recently, Retterer served as lead land-use and environmental counsel on the approval of the 95,000-square foot commercial building in downtown Salinas for Taylor Fresh Foods, Inc. Retterer also served as lead land use and environmental counsel on the approval of a $1.2 billion, 399-megawatt solar photovoltaic project, on 5,000 acres, and successfully defended the permits in a lawsuit filed in the San Benito County Superior Court in front of Judge O’Farrell.

Retterer worked for Lombardo & Gilles between 1999 and 2001, handling various land use matters including Coastal Commission permit issues, before relocating to Southern California, where he worked for Woodruff, Spradlin and Smart from 2001 to 2008 as one of their lead public agency attorneys working on land use, real estate and environmental issues. Retterer returned to Lombardo & Gilles in 2009 to fulfill his dream of leading the land use portion of the firm.

Retterer advises public and private entities in the following areas: Compliance with environmental laws such as the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), water quality and air quality laws, and federal and state hazardous waste laws; Working around development challenges presented by general plan and zoning regulations; Creating subdivisions in accordance with the Subdivision Map Act; Land use planning, including annexations; and Rules applicable to public entities, including the Brown Act, the Political Reform Act, and the Public Records Act.
