Local merchandiser “You Should Quit” will be hosting an event Saturday to encourage equal rights for gay people.

The event will be a partnership with the political action committee “The Legalize Gay Campaign,” said Tod Sondgroth, owner of “You Should Quit,” which sells merchandise and donates a portion of the proceeds to different causes.

Sondgroth started the business with a focus on feeding the hungry and he noted how he has helped to feed about 70,000 people in the past eight-plus months. The “Legalize Gay” campaign includes a feature on Facebook that involves people taking pictures and sharing them under the campaign’s theme.

The event is set for 6 p.m. Saturday at The Vault. It will include free admission, speaking, a documentary and opportunities to buy items. There will be a special photo shoot set up there to involve the Facebook campaign.

“It’s really just bringing more awareness and something completely new and different to Hollister,” Sondgroth said.

One of the focuses is to bring light to marital reform, he said.
