Gilroy – Red-hot Cabrillo combined prolific hitting with the two-hit pitching of Ashley Campbell to post a 10-2 Coast Conference win over Gavilan.
The Seahawks (12-2 overall, 7-2 conference) pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of three walks as they posted their fifth straight win. During their last four games, which includes an 11-1 win over the Rams, Cabrillo has outscored its opponents 44-3.
The Rams (7-13 overall, 2-5 conference) cut a 2-0 deficit in half in the bottom of the second when Haylie Cloud was hit by a pitch, Angelina Fernandez had a sacrifice bunt and Anisia Ceballos was safe on an error with a run scoring.
By the time Gavilan scored again in the bottom of the fourth, it was behind 8-1. Jen McBain hit a leadoff triple and scored on a throwing error for the Ram’s second run. Megan Smart had the only other Gavilan hit.
Campbell struck out five in picking up the win.
“They’re a hitting ballclub and we couldn’t answer back,” Rams’ coach Nikki Dequin-Thompson said.
Gavilan is at home at 3pm Tuesday to face Hartnell.
Baseball
Fremont – Ohlone College scored five runs in the seventh inning Thursday to pull away from Gavilan for a 9-2 Coast Conference win.
Daniel Salinas had two hits and two RBI for the Rams, who trailed 4-2 in the seventh before the Renegades put the game away.
Gavilan is at home at noon Saturday to face West Valley College.
