‘Li’l Abner’

South Valley Civic Theatre is presenting “Li’l Abner” through February, including: Jan. 29, 30 at 8 p.m. Jan 31 at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 5, 6, 12, 13 at 8 p.m. and on Feb. 7 at 2:30 p.m. The show is a broad spoof, but it is also a pointed satire taking on any number of topics ranging from an incompetent United States federal government to standards of masculinity. The show will be performed at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse at 17090 Monterey Road.

‘Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding’

“Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding” is playing Friday and Saturday nights at the Swiss Louis Italian and Seafood Restaurant at Pier 39 in San Francisco, at 7 p.m. The show is an interactive comedy where the audience members play the roles of invited guests at a wedding. The evening begins with the nuptials, a wedding reception and is followed by a full Italian dinner, wedding cake and dancing. Brain health workshop

The Philanthropic Educational Organization Chapter WX of Hollister, is hosting a workshop titled, “How Important Is a Healthy” brain Jan. 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the First Presbyterian Church facility hall, 2066 San Benito St., in Hollister. The workshop on brain health will cover such topics as Alzheimer’s, dementia, autism, attention deficit disorder, alcoholism, depression and other brain traumas. The guest speaker will be William Klindt, a child and adolescent psychiatrist and founder of Brain Spect Imaging in San Jose. Local educations, physicians and those in health-related fields are encouraged to attend. Admission is $15 per person, or $25 for two people. The funds will be used by the Philanthropic Educational Organization for its annual high school scholarships. YMCA Health Seekers workshop

The YMCA Health Seekers workshop on “Real Food, Quick, Inexpensive and Healthy” will be Feb. 2, at 7 p.m., at the YMCA office on Fifth Street in Hollister. California Waterfowl banquet

Baler Cheer Winter Clinic

The Baler Cheer Clinic will be held at the San Benito High School Mattson Gym Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The clinic includes a Baler Cheer shirt, lunch and an opportunity to cheer at halftime of a Baler basketball game for all participants. Participants must be 5-14 years of age, and should wear tennis shoes, comfortable shorts, have their hair pulled back and cannot have jewelry on. The cost is $35 at the door, and checks are payable to Baler Backers. All participants are invited to perform a dance at JV halftime on Feb. 10 against the Gilroy Mustangs. Mardi Gras Ball

Sacred Heart Parish School’s Mardi Gras Ball, formerly known as casino night will be held at Bolado Park, Feb. 6. There will be a dinner, live and silent auction and dancing to the tunes of The Monterey Band. All of the proceeds go directly to Sacred Heart Parish School. The grand prize is a $1,500 gift certificate to Bernardus Lodge, and only 200 tickets will be sold. Stop by the school office to purchase an event ticket or reverse draw ticket, every 13th ticket drawn wins a prize.

Ritchie Valens tribute concert

A Tribute to Ritchie Valens concert will be held Feb. 6 at the Henry J. Mello Center for Performing Arts in Watsonville, 250 E. Beach St. Lobby doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the show to start at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature Ray Anthony as Valens and the Backyard Blues Band, featuring Valens’ brother Mario Ramirez. Rehearsals start for Oriana Chorale

Oriana Chorale will start rehearsals for its spring production of the comedic opera, “Trial by Jury,” on Feb. 8 at 7:15 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2300 Airline Hwy., in Hollister. ‘Path of the Padres’

The “Path of the Padres” hikes will be held on some Fridays and most Saturdays and Sundays starting on Feb. 27 and will continue through April 18. The hikes are open to the public, ages 6 years and older by advance reservation only. School group hikes may be arranged during the week. School group reservations and general public reservations are now open. At least 10 people must be involved in the hike to be able to conduct a tour. The hike begins at the Los Banos Creek Reservoir boat launch ramp at 8 a.m. and returns to the ramp at about 3:30 p.m. To make a reservation, call (209)-826-1197 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be a reservation fee of $12 per person 12 years old, and $7 per child age 6-12. A family of 5 may reserve space for 2 adults and 3 children for $30. On the day of the hike visitors must pay the State Park day use parking fee of $10 per car upon entry.
