The Hollister Downtown Association is set to host its second Wine & Beer Stroll on Saturday in downtown Hollister. Also, Bill’s Bullpen is once again hosting Free Comic Book Day at his store.
Free Comic Book Day
Bill’s Bullpen in Hollister is one of thousands of comic book shops around the world celebrating comic books Saturday in an annual giveaway. Free Comic Book Day will involve more than two million comic books being given away at participating stores. Regular updates about comic books and a list of those participating are online at FreeComicBookDay.com. The special event will start at 10 a.m. and runs until all free comics are given away. Wine & Beer Stroll
The Hollister Downtown Association is set to host its second Wine & Beer Stroll on May 3 in downtown Hollister. It is set for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for participants, who must be age 21 or over. Tickets are $25 and available at the following: HDA office, San Benito Bene, Postal Graphics, Edward Jones Investments. Tickets are $35 the day of the event.
Pet Friends fundraiser
Pet Friends is hosting a barbecue fundraiser in support of animal adoptions. The group is doing it at San Andreas Continuation High School parking lot, 191 Alvarado St. It is set for noon to 3 p.m. May 4, with a drive-through pick-up for meals and walk-ins welcome. The menu includes a ½ barbecue chicken, garlic bread, green salad and baked beans. The price is a $20 donation per meal with 100 percent of proceeds going to support Pet Friend’s animal adoptions. The chef is Ray Sanchez.
‘Honoring the People in Blue’
The Pentecostal church in Hollister at 2340 Technology Parkway is hosting an event called “Honoring the People in Blue” at 7 p.m. May 7. The church will be honoring those who protect and serve, while it is open to the public. Speakers will include Pastor Hurst, Mayor Ignacio Velazquez, Police Chief David Westrick and Fire Chief Mike O’Connor with presentations by the TPC Choir, Kids Club and Sign Team. Business After Hours
The next Business After Hours event from the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is set for 5:30 p.m. May 14. It will be at the Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital Support Services Building on the second floor. It is hosted by the Hazel Hawkins Hospital Foundation.
Cards for a Cause
CASA of San Benito County presents Cards For A Cause. It is a BBQ dinner and Texas Hold ‘Em poker tournament fundraiser and is set for May 10. Dinner is 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. with cards after. Tickets are $50, which include dinner and poker buy-in, or $25 for dinner only. For tickets or information, please contact the CASA office at (831) 637-4992 Proceeds from the event will provide advocacy for children in San Benito County’s foster care system, giving them a powerful voice and a brighter future.
Heritage event in SJB
On May 17, join an informative walking tour of the heritage roses (some of which date back to Civil War days) at the San Juan Bautista District Cemetery, 70 Monterey St. The tour will be led by Jill Perry, curator of the collection at the Heritage Rose Garden in San Jose; joining her will be Jeri Jennings, national convener for the Heritage Roses Group. After touring the roses and collecting some cuttings, the group will then proceed to the lovely garden of the historic Marentis House, 45 Monterey St. for a propagation workshop. Bring a hat, water, pencil and paper and maybe clippers and gloves. The group will meet at the bottom of the cemetery at noon to start the tour and the propagation workshop will be from about 1:30 p.m. 3 p.m. Contact Wanda to sign up for the tour (helpful but not required) or with questions:

Kids Rule theater camp
Registration is open for the San Benito Stage Company’s Kids Rule Theatre Camp. Camp is scheduled for June 23-27.
