Fire response

A vegetation fire spanning an estimated 25 to 30 acres was burning Monday afternoon off northbound Highway 101 between Anzar Road and Highway 156, according to an information officer from Calfire.
The blaze—reported at 1:17 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol online logs—is one of many Calfire has responded to this fire season, as California weathers it’s fourth consecutive year of drought. Most of the fire was out by 1:35 p.m., according to the CHP online reporting system.
“In the first six months of the year, Calfire responded to over 3,400 vegetation fires, which is about 1,100 more than normal for the first six months of the year,” said Jonathan Pangburn, an information officer with Calfire.
While the number of fires the agency is responding to is higher than it was last year, the number of acres burned is not, Pangburn said.
