Editor,

Lately there has been a lot of interesting news about the casino and vice versa. It is good to see so many people involved. This makes it easier on our leaders to make their decisions.

I was one of the first who wrote a letter with my views. What I wrote was based on my experience visiting three Indian casinos while out of state on vacation. We visited one a day, all similar. Only slot machines were present. There were no restaurants, no liquor and many young men and women all dressed in uniforms. This gave me the idea that this county could benefit from one of these kinds of businesses. My point was jobs. What the county so desperately needs.

I have changed my mind after I learned what kind of casino they are trying to bring here. And, not wanting to commit with future guarantees. In one letter I read, someone mentioned if the casino succeeds they will run out with $100 million a year. I have no doubt, but those millions would be dropped in from four surrounding counties. San Benito County does not have those kind of millions. However, I feel our county would have some advantage with that.

To me this is over. I am with our leaders and majority who feel this not what the county needs. This Board was elected to make changes. They have a difficult job ahead of them. I feel they inherited a barrel of worms that won’t be easy to eradicate. They need our support and our prayers. Just hope they succeed. It’s not an easy job. Just like I said before, take your time, we can wait. Just be careful. Don’t make the first mistake. I am sure there is someone out there just waiting for that. So far I commend you and feel you are doing a great job.

I don’t know if I should agree on trying to have one election to raise $15 millions to improve HHH. They can build another story on it. As it is now, you have hard times some days to finding parking. I usually go by there once or twice a week to visit. I don’t see any land to expand a parking lot. Only if they built a three story garage like the one in town. If I have anything to do with this, I would look for a future site. I would buy 20 acres still available on Sunnyslope, Hillcrest, Meridian or even downtown Cienega. Plan for a future new hospital with plenty of room to park and build doctors offices. Fifteen million dollars would take you a long way in building a new hospital. Don’t do here what they did with the sewer. Twenty years from now, HHH will be another good place for the elderly. This is only my opinion.
