“To the person who grew up on beer, alcohol and marijuana at the water tower in 1984-1988: Why do you make others responsible for your decisions? You were undoubtedly mature enough to make a decision to not have put yourself and others in dangerous situations. Why can’t the young people gather in their own back yards without the alcohol, beer and marijuana and become interested in something creative and help each other enjoy their youth and privileges?
Oh, kids just do those things and the rest of us, like parents, grandparents and citizens, are to accept all the backlashes if something goes wrong. It is quite a job raising a family and also have to have fingers like yours pointed at us for not doing enough.
I challenge the youth of this community to write in as to why they believe they must have alcohol in order to enjoy an evening or life. Why don’t they gather their own committee and go to the boards like everyone else and see if they can get all the luxuries so they will not be ‘bad’ kids. This would certainly be interesting and they would learn how community government works (or maybe doesn’t work.)
Speak to the youth and teach them that they do not have to or need to go to today’s ‘water towers’ and do these things. Everyone, even the youth today, want to blame everyone else for their behavior and, often unfortunate, tragic results. No one can stop you but yourself. ”
“I would like to respond to the person who commented to the Citizens Voice column and address the following as quoted: ‘Do you want another builder developer as your supervisor?’
You are mistaken when you refer to Don Marcus as a “builder developer.” Mr. Marcus is a general building contractor who specializes in commercial buildings. San Benito Bank, Countryside Daycare, Ranchers Feed, TechNova Industries, C&C Cabinets and Sunnyslope Water District to name a few. These are not developments or subdivisions; they are commercial buildings that employ many San Benito County residents and bring in much needed revenue into the County coffers.
I encourage you to speak directly to the supervisor candidates in your district. Call, e-mail or stop by their office. Ask them questions, voice your concerns, and most importantly find out for yourself who these candidates are and what their vision is for San Benito County. I am confident that once you do you too will be voting for the old family name ‘Don Marcus for District 1 Supervisor.'”
“Has the 2004 grand jury members been selected yet? I have not seen any publication in the newspapers by the judge and district attorney asking for applications from the citizens to set on the jury.
We are now starting a new year, and the grand jury should be in place as it will have a lot to deal with. Maybe this 2004 grand jury can investigate and find out what happened to the seven million dollars that is missing from the reserve fund. And another thing the grand jury should look into is why the delinquent property tax rolls was not published in the papers. Was the law changed or did the county tax collector fail to follow the law by not publishing it?”
