“Why is the historical clock above Fourth and San Benito Street 15 minutes slow? Someone can’t tell time or figure out how to fix it? It makes us look stupid since it’s one of Hollister’s symbols.”

“The speed limit on San Benito Street is 25 miles an hour but everyone does 40 with no cops in sight. Will it take someone getting killed before drivers slow down or the cops start using their radar guns? It’s almost impossible to walk or drive across it without getting hit. Same goes for Nash Road. Slow down or get a ticket!!!”

“I know this goes against popular thinking, but … RAISE THE SPEED LIMIT on Highway 25 to 65 miles per hour. Almost all the highways in the state have this … or at least 60 … as the limit.

By raising the speed limit, it would cut down on frustration being behind a car that can’t even drive 55. It will also help eliminate people passing illegally.”

“Why is the shoreline at San Justo Reservoir so trashed? I thought fishermen were good for the environment. At least that’s what they say.”

“I wonder if anything will actually come out of the Slow-Growth workshop except the predictable hot air from those who participated.”

“Seems to me the people who oppose the Rally are either rednecks or too dumb to figure out a way to make money off it.”

“Roll me over with a hog. Let’s kill the motorcycle rally. It does nothing to better this great

community.”

“What happened to your Free Lance guy on the horse who used to be on your front page? He’s still on the signs in front of your building. Did he fall off his horse and the front page? Is his name Lance?”

“Hooray to the city for cracking down on those portable basketball standards. But, the city should take it a step further. Confiscate the ones that aren’t picked up.

It’s as simple as telling your children to pick up his room. And my property value is going down because of the invasion of these things in my neighborhood.”

“Just asking. When the weather gets hot, how come the grocery stores always run out of water in their machines?”

“Congratulations to Robert Rodriguez. The owner of San Benito Heating and Sheet Metal made the Hispanic Business magazine’s Top 500 Hispanic businesses in the nation. Last year, the business made $6 million and employs 62, all here in Hollister. Just think what’s in our future.”

“Workshops to bring diverse people together about the slow-growth initiative are fine, but when all is said and done, the decision will be made in the voting booth.

For or against the initiative, it’s like trying to change a Republican into a Democrat and vice versa.”
