During this time period, Commissioner Frank Paura also resigned
from his position with the commission after the June 25 special
meeting and was not replaced until the Aug. 28 meeting, when Helen
Ross took over his seat.

HOLLISTER
The Hollister Planning Commission as a whole had an attendance rate of 93 percent for the past year, according to commission meeting agenda minutes examined by the Free Lance from Nov. 15 of last year through Nov. 20.
“I think it’s been really good,” said Commissioner David Huboi. “I’m happy with our attendance, as a whole. I’m happy to be part of our commission and we have good people on it.
“Unless they have a really good excuse, like a death in the family, they’ll be there.”
During this time period, Commissioner Frank Paura also resigned from his position with the commission after the June 25 special meeting and was not replaced until the Aug. 28 meeting, when Helen Ross took over his seat. For the July 24 meeting, there was only a possibility of four members in attendance when there normally would be five.
Of the 17 regular and special meetings held over that period, Commissioners Charlie Scott and Huboi both had perfect attendance.
“I’ve had perfect attendance for four years, special meetings, too. I take pride in my attendance,” Huboi said.
Scott said that in general, the commission has had “very good” attendance. His own interest in the city’s planning is one of the reasons for his perfect attendance over the year.
“I’m one of those lay-about guys who retired,” he said. “So I’ve got plenty of time to go to city meetings. I’m very interested in the planning for this city. I’ve been fortunate this year to attend all the meetings. I try to do it for the best outcome for the city.”
During the same period, Commissioner Chris Alvarez missed one meeting.
City Councilman Ray Friend, who has been replaced on the planning commission by Gabriel Torres, missed the most meetings of all the commissioners.
Friend missed three regular meetings, as well as the April 10 special meeting.
“Two were for medical reasons and one I had to work,” Friend said. He added that he was unsure of the reason for the fourth absence but guessed that it was due to storm damage.
Combined, Paura and Ross had one absence between them. That one absence belongs to Paura, who missed the meeting on Feb. 28. Ross had perfect attendance for the final six meetings, which included two special meetings.
Special Meeting Attendance
For the same time period, the commission held five special meetings. Of those five special meetings, there was only one absence for an attendance rate of 96 percent.
The only absence was by Friend, who missed the April 24 meeting.
