A project to re-pave a nearly two-mile portion of a frontage along San Felipe Road in Hollister should be done by the start of December, a city engineer confirmed.

The $1 million project funded through the state Transportation Development Act has “been in the pipeline for a number of years,” but is now nearing its finish, said City Engineer Rudy Golnik.

The project includes the re-paving work on the San Felipe Road frontage, along with replacement of water lines at the intersection with Fallon Road, Golnik said.

“We were fortunate to be able to move it forward and get it done,” Golnik said.

Contractors still are “buttoning it up,” as Golnik put it, but drivers should expect to see it done by the beginning of next month, he said.

Golnik said there was “quite a bit” of water line work to complete in an effort to improve fire service access in the industrial areas nearby.

They combined the paving and water line work for an obvious reason.

“You don’t want to pave a road and then dig it up for new water lines,” he said.
