Vanessa Farias has seen her playing time increase this season for the Westmont College women’s basketball team, and for good reason.

After averaging 4.8 points per game in a little more than 12 minutes of action a year ago as a freshmen, the 2009 graduate of San Benito High has since upped her production this season, averaging 11.1 points per game for the Warriors, third highest on the team.

Although not starting, the former Baler has seen action in every game this season and is playing more than 20 minutes per game for the Santa Barbara college, which is 15-5 overall this year.

Farias’ 11.1 average is aided by the breakout game she had on Nov. 13 — a 77-43 victory over Bethany College. The San Benito standout deposited a career-high 31 points for Westmont in that game, and single-handedly outscored Bethany in the second half by a 27-22 margin.

Farias’ 31 points in that game is the seventh most in Westmont women’s basketball history, according to the school’s website.

Her 27 points in the second half included seven 3-pointers, while her final stat line included a 10 of 14 performance from the field, 7 of 11 from behind the arc, and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line.

Farias and the Westmont Warriors will square off against California Baptist on Thursday in Santa Barbara. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
