Planning commissioner Anthony Freitas is frustrated because he claims Supervisor Ruth Kesler won’t postpone her requested proposal to oust him Aug. 27 to a different date – he’ll be on vacation that day and won’t be there to speak in his defense.

Freitas, who will face Anthony Botelho in November for the District 2 seat, also said board Chairman Bob Cruz won’t respond to repeated attempts to reach him. Freitas claims he visited Cruz’s house three times this past weekend.

Cruz acknowledged Freitas called him once. But he said he hasn’t been at home when Freitas came by his house. Furthermore, Cruz said he’s not directly involved in the matter, and that all supervisors have the right to place items on the agenda – not just the chairman.

“He did leave a message,” Cruz said. “When you want to get ahold of somebody you keep calling.”

Kesler last week requested a discussion and potential vote on Freitas’ removal from the planning commission. She appointed him to the post four years ago. But she claims their views – especially on growth-related issues – are now too different.

Freitas believes her actions are politically motivated. He and Botelho knocked Kesler, a three-term supervisor, out of the race in the March primary. Those two will face off Nov. 2.

Kesler couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday.

Freitas is going on a long-planned vacation to Alaska and will not in the board chambers Aug. 27. He has received “a lot of good feedback” from residents about his requested dismissal, he said. And he expects many people to show up Aug. 27 to speak during the public comment portion of the meeting – before the supervisors go into closed session.

“If I hopefully become a supervisor, I will pay attention to my job,” Freitas said. “If anybody calls me or comes to my house I will open my door.”
