The San Benito County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday acknowledged donations that will benefit the county historical park south of Tres Pinos, the Anza Trail near San Juan Bautista and the sheriff’s office K-9 unit.

San Juan resident Suzanne Kerns is donating a six-foot-long redwood bench that will be placed a quarter-mile from the trailhead of the Juan Bautista de Anza Trail off of Old Stagecoach Road west of the city.

The San Benito County Public Works Department will install the custom-made $450 bench to provide a respite for people walking, biking or horseback riding on the trail.

The county also accepted $358 from the Botelho family for the purchase and installation of trees at the San Benito County Historical Park to replace trees that were recently removed.

Supervisor Anthony Botelho said his family chose to donate proceeds from his family’s annual chicken barbecue to the park after employees of the historic site noted trees were being lost to disease.

Joe Pendry of the Gavilan Kennel Club also spoke to the board about the organization’s $1,000 donation to the sheriff’s office to help support the K-9 unit.

“We appreciate your dog-friendly attitudes in this county,” Pendry said to the board as Sheriff Darren Thompson stood next to him to acknowledge the donation. “We use Bolado Park for our annual, two-day dog show and companion trials in May.”
