Get in on the fun early at the San Benito County Fair as the horse events get underway Friday at Bolado Park.
Festivities start with the junior rodeo and continue over the weekend with the ranch rodeo, 4-H and FFA horse show.
Opening day for the fair is on September 28.
Now in its 94th year, the fair is featuring a couple of firsts.
“We have an exciting new motorsports show this year,” said Dara Tobias, fair manager. Spectators will be thrilled over two nights of exhilarating motorsports, featuring freestyle motocross, quad wars, diesel truck pulls and more. Then there is the first-ever Banda and Charro show in the arena.
Other show highlights include the Quilts of Honor ceremony. The local Pinnacle Quilters Guild has made over 40 quilts with a red, white and blue, Americana or military theme. During the ceremony area veterans are recognized for their service to the country and are presented with the handmade quilt. Veterans are identified by their branch of service, where they served and place of conflict.
At the Taste of San Benito event on the Sunday of the fair, local producers showcase their oils, wines, ciders, teas, and many other unique products.
Event organizers expect to welcome more than 18,000 visitors to the fair this year.
The San Benito County Fair is from September 28 to October 1 at Bolado Park, 9000 Airline Highway.
