Hollister – A highly-anticipated informational meeting about a proposed Indian casino in San Benito County will be held this afternoon at the Veterans Memorial Building.

The forum will feature Mike McGowan and Valerie Brown, County Supervisors for Yolo and Sonoma counties, respectively, both of which have experienced the arrival of Indian gaming. McGowan and Brown will discuss the positive and negative effects Indian casinos can have on communities and answer questions from concerned audience members.

However, Hollister Mayor Tony Bruscia is one of many people who fear the meeting’s time, 1:30pm in the middle of a work day, will limit the number of concerned citizens able to attend.

“Unfortunately, I don’t know how much public participation there will be because it’s in the middle of the day,” he said. But, he added, as far as he can tell “it seems like there’s more negative feeling than positive out there for the casino.”
