San Benito County’s unemployment rate continued to show a healthy decline in May, according to the California Employment Development Department.
The county’s jobless rate in May was 9.1 percent. That seasonally unadjusted figure was down from 12.3 percent in April. The 9.1 percent rate also compares favorably with the same month of 2013, when the jobless number was 10.7 percent in San Benito County, according to the EDD.
In May, the county had a workforce of 26,600 people, with an estimate of 2,400 filing for unemployment. The workforce was at 26,700 in May 2013, according to the EDD. In May 2012, there were 27,000 people in the local workforce.
The state jobless rate decreased from 7.8 percent to 7.6 percent from April to May.
