In honor of Veterans Appreciation Month, the Santa Clara Veterans Employment Committee is holding its Fifth Annual Walk-a-thon on Saturday, May 8 at Lake Cunningham in San Jose from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The money raised from the event will fund two different scholarships open to residents of San Benito County. The Ron Corbal Youth Scholarship is open to anyone under 25 who will be attending college or technical training in the fall. An application and a 500 word essay is due by Saturday. The Bill Estes Memorial Veterans Scholarship is open only to veterans. The $1,000 scholarship will help veterans achieve employment retention and advances. The deadline is July 4. The $10 registration fee gets visitors into the walk-a-thon and provides them with a hat, shirt or gym bag. For more information, contact Robert Caballero at 636-5192.
