Winter doesn’t mean you have to stop playing golf. The conditions simply offer a new set of challenges facing the golfer.
For some, that means it’s time to really challenge yourself and the course under conditions that are far less than ideal. Being prepared is the most important thing you can do when playing a winter round of golf.
Did you pack your umbrella and golf towel? It is surprising how dry you and your clubs stay with just those two items.
Do you have an extra glove or two in case one gets wet? As good as a golf glove grips when it is dry, it is very bad when it gets wet. Rain gloves are a good investment if you plan on playing a few rounds under wet conditions.
Are your grips clean, or better yet, new? This is a great time of the year to re-grip your clubs. Just like driving your car, you wouldn’t want to go on the freeway with slick tires, so why go on the course with slick grips?
Take every measure to keep your clubs and hands dry. If your body is wet, you can still play. If your hands and grips are wet, you are at the mercy of the elements. Keep your towel hung in the inside of your umbrella. That’s the dryest spot during a storm.
So when Mother Nature throws us a curve ball, go out and challenge her head on. Just be prepared before you do.
