As we approach the Christmas season, it is time to take a look at your bag and see if there are any “holes” that need to be filled.

Do you say to yourself from time to time, “I wish I had a … right now, I could really use it”? Maybe that club should go on your Christmas list.

I recently added a fourth wedge and a second hybrid to my bag and eliminated two long irons. I did this because I found that I had a greater potential to lower my score from 125 yards, and so I needed another wedge to cover all the distances from that point to the green. I asked myself the question above many times as I struggled from 80 to 110 yards out, until I added a 50-degree wedge.

On the hybrid choice, they are just so much more user friendly than a long iron. I recommend that the average player not carry an iron lower than a 6-iron and fill the lower irons in with two or three hybrids. You will be much happier with the results.

Next time you are playing, see where your game is lacking. There may be a club to fill that need.
