After playing enough golf with my friends, I begin to notice certain quirks about their swings and putting styles.

In one case, my nameless friend would complain about scuffing putts (particularly short putts).

After watching him for a while, it was obvious by the way he set up the ball that his putter was not the right size.

Only the heal of the putter was touching the ground. The rest of it was up in the air much like the style used by Champion’s Tour play Aiseo Aoki.

I suggested to him that if his putter was shorter and the lie four degrees flatter that it would more properly on the ground and reduce the risk of the heal dragging.

Thanks to his wife, he now has a new putter that fits him correctly. When I was playing against him, I had to pay him $2. So the putter is starting to pay for itself. However, I wasn’t particularly interested in underwriting it.

For more help with fitting your clubs or with your swing, see your local PGA or LPGA golf professional.
