Editor,
I feel this letter may be kind of late from what I have heard. A
couple of weeks ago I wrote a letter about the plans of our Hazel
Hawkins Hospital. I had a few responses including one from my
doctor that a new hospital would cost $130 million.
Editor,

Don’t listen to me, consult the experts. They will tell you to build a new hospital 10 years from now the cost would be double. In other words, you could save lots of money if the decision was made to go for a new hospital.
Now another thing I am concerned with is my taxes, just like everybody else. The big percentage is for schools and hospitals. I feel, however, if we are to go to election to get this money it should be from sales taxes instead of property taxes. Everybody pays plenty in property taxes. Everybody will benefit from the hospital. It is one thing we must have. But, to me, a patch job is a patch job. It is not for me, but I am sure there will be much more people 10 to 15 years from now.
Another thing I would like to comment on is that I attended a recent Planning Commission meeting. I was wondering where the ones who worked so hard to defeat Measure G were. A win for a change. A new Board for a change. I see things are so complicated with our commissioners. It seems like they are working their way with no idea which direction they should take. There is so much need to revise our General Plan including with the Hillside Ordinance. Get rid of so many old rules when you need to implement new ones. I hate after so much work to destroy Measure G to let things go dormant. The ground worms are going to start coming out of the ground again. I feel things take time, but I don’t like when things turn so quiet. I hope our Farm Directors are still awake after spending so much time in destroying Measure G. I hope the ones who have done so much for change still have their eyes open.
Another thing I would like to comment on is that our Planning Commissioners have been working for so many years for $50 a meeting. I think they deserve better. Many times they have to drive to check on what the meeting are concerning in their own vehicles. For the price of gas today, $50 doesn’t go to far. I tried a few years back with the old Board to get them a raise. I did not succeed. It is only pennies. At least a $100 a meeting would be fair. I said before, if you don’t need it, why have it? If you need it, just be fair. Like always, only my opinion.
