Haybalers improve to 2-1 in the TCAL with Everett Alvarez

A doubles sweep supplied the San Benito boys tennis team with its second straight league victory on Thursday in Watsonville, where the Haybalers defeated host Monte Vista Christian 5-2.

The ‘Balers are now 2-1 in the Tri-County Athletic League, 3-2 overall.

The top doubles pairing of Jon Rudolfs and Tony Culler scored a 6-0, 6-0 victory against MVC’s Andy Chang and Jay Jung, while No. 2 Mike Jensen and Josh Greenwood defeated Sunil Huang and Max Song 6-0, 7-5.

At No. 3 doubles, Conner Bray and Eric Johnson preserved the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win against MVC’s Sarin Parikh and Kevin Speir.

In singles, San Benito’s top two in Derek Panger and Mark Tobias lost their matches. Panger fell to Ha Le 6-2, 4-6, 9-11, while Tobias was trumped by Sean Trando 6-7, 1-6.

San Benito’s No. 3 Kyle Skinner downed Zack Nissen 6-4, 6-0, however, and teammate Austin Pan did the same when he defeated Tony Meninni 7-5, 6-0.

The ‘Balers will return home on Tuesday when Everett Alvarez will visit the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister at 4 p.m.
