Our first Red Phone caller, a local woman, asked what the Crimson Crusader what city crews are doing downtown this week.

The Crimson Crusader did some investigation and found out that the city is doing some major tree trimming throughout the historic downtown area. Our hero called Hollister Park Supervisor Marcelo Orta to find out more about the tree trimming project. Orta said city crews will be swarming all over the downtown area this week trimming trees and beautifying the area. Orta and his crews will start along San Benito Street today. Downtown visitors should be advised and not park too close to any of the orange cones that will mark off the work areas.

Orta said he tries to complete a downtown cleanup such as this every year before the holiday season and the Lights on Parade.

Who should I call?

Our final Red Phone caller of the week, a local man, asked the Crimson Crusader what he should do when he sees people loitering and smoking drugs in the shopping plaza on the corner of Third and San Benito Streets.

Well, keen caller, you shouldn’t call the Red Phone. If you see someone smoking drugs, loitering or committing any other type of criminal act, you should call the police. The Crimson Crusader does not enforce the law or arrest people. Our hero simply writes a helpful column twice a week. In the future, dearest caller, call the Hollister Police Department at 636-4330 or by dialing 9-1-1 in emergencies.
