Hollister police arrested a suspect in two downtown store break-ins, but then another one occurred early Wednesday morning.
While police announced the arrest of a juvenile suspect in burglaries to Heavenly Bakery and Country Rose Cafe this week, the Green Rush Smoke Shop in the 700 block of San Benito Street experienced a break-in and burglary.
The Heavenly Bakery burglary occurred overnight Monday with the Country Rose burglary following that one. Both incidents involved damage, while Sgt. Don Pershall from the Hollister Police Department said money had been taken from the bakery, located at Sixth and San Benito streets.
Pershall said police made an arrest in the related burglaries on Tuesday afternoon, but he could not release the suspect’s identity because the person is a youth.
Although the prime suspect in the two incidents was in custody, the latest burglary happened in the early hours of Wednesday just down the block from Country Rose.
In the smoke shop burglary, police received an audible alarm call shortly after 4 a.m. The front window had been broken and items had been stolen from the store, Pershall said.
Pershall didn’t believe the first two burglaries were linked to the third.
“It’s doubtful because the original suspect’s in custody,” he said.
