Hollister Police cited more than two dozen motorists for various vehicle code violations during a May 5 DUI and driver’s license checkpoint, according to authorities.
During the Sunday evening, Cinco de Mayo checkpoint, officers arrested one motorist and issued 25 citations for driving without a valid license or on a suspended license, reads a press release from the city’s police department. Hollister Police conducted the checkpoint from 6pm to 10pm May 5, on Fourth Street at Filice Drive. Officers screened all westbound traffic for potential drunken driving violations and drivers without licenses.
Officers conducted three field sobriety tests on three drivers who were suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said. One of these motorists allegedly showed signs of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested. Patrol officers made one additional arrest of a driver on suspicion of DUI.
Police identified the two motorists driving on suspicion of DUI as 66-year-old Manuel Lopez-Perez and 23-year-old Salud Martinez-Medina.
A total of 25 drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a suspended license, among other vehicle code violations, police said. Those cited for these violations were released at the checkpoint. Most of their vehicles were released to a licensed driver and were not towed.
Funding for the local holiday checkpoint was provided to Hollister Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
