A fire Wednesday afternoon caused extensive damage to a two-story apartment building on Nash Road.

The fire was first reported at about 2 p.m. in the 900 block of Nash Road, at the Nash Road Apartments.

The Hollister Fire Department and Hollister Police Department responded. The building includes four units, said Vincent Martinez, who has owned the structure for 44 years.

Martinez watched as firefighters battled the blaze and authorities escorted residents out. There were three adults and one child displaced from the unit where the fire occurred, according to a report from dispatchers.

The cause was not immediately clear.

There are three other two-story apartment buildings in the same courtyard, about six blocks from San Benito High School. Martinez, who owns the damaged building and another there, said he has fire insurance.

“They were 2 years old when I bought them,” he said of the buildings.
