Nobody was hurt in a small fire that burned the side yard and a
recreation vehicle next to a house on the 800 block of Via Juan
Pablo in the Rancho Larios development near San Juan Bautista on
Tuesday morning.
Nobody was hurt in a small fire that burned the side yard and a recreation vehicle next to a house on the 800 block of Via Juan Pablo in the Rancho Larios development near San Juan Bautista on Tuesday morning.
The blaze did spread into some vegetation on a hill adjacent to the house, but did not cause any damage to the interior of the home. The fire damage was contained to the small yard and fence near the house’s garage.
“There was no extension into the house,” said Reno Ditullio, Calfire battalion chief for the Aromas Tri-County Area. “There was some damage to the exterior, but nothing inside.”
Firefighters received the call around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday, Ditullio said. It was originally sent for officers to check on unidentified smoke, but it eventually turned into a fire.
“It quickly turned into a fire situation,” he said.
The fire was contained 20 minutes after firefighters arrived on scene, Ditullio said. Firefighters responded to the call within 15 minutes.
Members of the San Juan Bautista Volunteer Fire Department and San Benito County Fire Department assisted Calfire firefighters. In total, 15 firefighters responded to the blaze.
At the time of the fire, five people were in the house, including the homeowner and her four kids, according to a neighbor who didn’t want to be identified. Before firefighters arrived, neighbors tried to suppress the fire using a garden hose.
