San Benito's Michael Bocksnick gets a pass off during the first quarter of Friday's loss to Palo Alto.

When the Balers take the field at Andy Hardin Field for the first time this year against Oak Grove, the Balers, for the second week in a row, will have to deal with something they can’t practice for – speed.

The Balers were tormented by the elusive speed of Palo Alto and running back B.J. Boyd in their 28-18 season opening loss. But Friday, the Balers will have to deal with that all over again against Oak Grove.

“We are gong to see all this and more next week. So I hope we come out expecting it and settle more into the game,” Cameron said after the Palo Alto game last Friday.

Oak Grove, who beat St. Francis last week 27-25, has elusive speed and a dynamic quarterback in Ray Rivera.

And for the second week consecutive week, the Balers will try to take revenge for an early loss during last year’s non-league season.

Last year, Oak Grove beat San Benito 34-13 in San Jose. Rivera threw for 115 yards on only five pass attempts. And running back Jacri Carr ran for nearly 100 yards on 18 carries. Now seniors, Carr and Rivera lead a potent Oak Grove attack.

“They are a big and fast team. We’ll have to be more prepared,”

Cameron said after the Balers loss to Palo Alto.

But the Balers have a possibly explosive offense of their own – thanks to the arm and legs of quarterback Michael Bocksnick.

The junior led the way for the Balers against Palo Alto, running for two touchdowns and 120 yards and throwing for another 179 yards. Against Palo Alto, Bocksnick was all over the place.

“He is a weapon,” Cameron said.

Bocksnick will have to be again for the Balers if they hope to revenge last year’s loss.

Cameron did not return phone calls before press time.
