Hollister residents will receive brief relief from the rain before a new storm system moves in this weekend.

The recent stretch of rain brought 0.82 inches to the region over the last two days before Thursday, according to National Weather Service Forecaster Anna Schneider. The rain was set to continue with lingering showers into Thursday morning. Residents should expect a dry Friday until the evening, when rain is expected to redevelop over the weekend, she said.

Hollister is expected to receive 2.7 inches of rain from Saturday to Monday, Schneider said. The heaviest rain is expected on Saturday and Sunday.

Winter has brought 4.70 inches of rain to the Bay Area from Oct. 1 through Jan. 3 so far, according to the weather service. The average for this time of year is in Hollister is 2.93 inches.

Schneider said that while some northwestern areas of California look to be out of the drought, the local region ranges from abnormally dry to exceptional drought.

“(The rain) will definitely help, but we have no way of knowing how much,” Schneider said.
