Tiger Woods made things interesting midway through his third round Saturday at the Frys.com Open, pulling within three strokes of the leaders at one point at 5-under after back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 – his 10th and 11th holes.

However, Woods played his final seven holes 1-over, carding a 3-under 68 to get him to -4 for the tournament and six shots back of current leaders Ernie Els, Briny Baird, Adam Hadwin and Bryce Molder (-10.) Hadwin is 7-under for his round and Molder is 6-under.

All four players are still out on the course.

Woods played the front 9 (the course’s back 9) at 2-under, with birdies on No. 11 and No. 15.

“It’s getting better. I’m improving day by day, which is good,” Woods said. “Obviously tomorrow I need to improve a lot and make the putts and post a really low one tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, Live Oak High graduate Erick Justesen has two birdies and three bogeys, resting at 1-over for the day through 14 holes. Justesen, who began the day tied for 12th, is now tied for 41st.

Three players are tied for third at -9 as of 3:30 p.m.
