Gavilan College students cheer towards the crowd after receiving their diplomas during their graduation ceremony Friday.

Gavilan College board Tuesday voted to change the ASB name to Associated Students of Gavilan College (ASGC), a name that the majority of students chose in a survey in the fall of 2014.
The majority of California Community Colleges no longer use ASB as their name, according to background information from the meeting agenda packet.
Students from the three campuses were told ASB wanted to change their name and were offered the following options: ASGC, Associated Student Government, Student Senate of Gavilan College or no change.
The majority of the students at the Morgan Hill and Hollister satellite campuses actually preferred the traditional ASB name but the majority of the students in Gilroy––the college’s largest campus––voted for ASGC.
