The executive director of the Gavilan College Educational Foundation resigned shortly after community college trustees were forced to return $270,000 the organization overpaid to the college.

Ken Berry stepped down as executive director in May, leaving the position vacant, said Gavilan College President Steve Kinsella, who also sits on the educational foundation’s board. Kinsella said he did not know when the foundation’s board would replace Berry.

In April, Gavilan College trustees voted unanimously to give $270,000 back to the Gavilan College Educational Foundation after learning that the foundation allocated funds to the college that already had been earmarked for other projects.

Although Berry did not return phone calls, he said in an April interview that he takes full responsibility for what had happened.
