Gavilan Rams

Gavilan coach Neal Andrade said he was confident pitcher Matt Oxner would keep his team in games this season. It looks like he was right.
Oxner went the distance for Gavilan Saturday, helping the team to its first win of the season. The Rams topped College of the Siskiyous 6-2 to improve to 1-3 on the year.
Oxner struck out seven and allowed just five hits and one earned run through nine innings of work. He also walked three.
The Rams took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
With the bases loaded Jake Conlan was walked, sending Adam Kocina across the plate. Javier Garcia reached on a fielder’s choice allowing Steven Martinez and Danny Gutierrez to score.
It was a similar story in the bottom of the second when Kocina reached on a fielder’s choice to score Andrew Bueno. A few at bats later Gutierrez hit an RBI single to score Eric Guill-Perez and give Gavilan a 5-1 lead.
Guiterrez’s bat continued to stay hot, hitting a solo homer in bottom of the fourth for Gavilan’s final score. He led the team going 3 for 5 with two RBIs, two runs and a home run.
Conlan was 1 for 3 with an RBI, two walks and a stolen base. Garcia was 1 for 4 with an RBI, while Guill-Perez was 1 for 5 with a run and stolen base. Kocina was 0 for 5 with an RBI, a run scored and two errors.
Gavilan lost both games of its doubleheader to College of the Siskiyous Friday, falling 8-5 in the first and 14-5 in the second.
The Rams will hit the road to play at West Hills at 2 p.m. Thursday in Coalinga.
