John Forestieri drove in all three of Gavilan’s runs, lifting it to a 3-2 win over the Lobos at Monterey Peninsula College Saturday.
Monterey got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second, but the Rams wasted no time evening the score. Forestieri hit an RBI-single in the top of the third to score Bryant Cid.
Forestieri helped two more runs to cross the plate in the top of the fifth when he reached on an error by the Lobos’ left fielder. It was more than enough time for Cid and Austin Garcia to come home.
MPC pushed one more run across in the bottom of the seventh, but fell just short of the ‘W’.
Forestieri was 1 for 4 with three RBIs. Garcia went 2 for 4 with a run, while Cid scored two runs and had a stolen base.
Matt Oxner got the win on the bump, tossing six and one-third innings. He allowed two runs on 10 hits, struck out six and walked one.
Justin Tantog was awarded the save with a perfect one-third inning performance.
Gavilan (16-8 overall, 9-5 in conference) will play at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Chabot College.
SOFTBALL
Gavilan tops De Anza
Gavilan and De Anza were locked in a 2-2 tie heading into the final inning of Thursday’s game. The Rams were able to gain the edge, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh while holding off a rally from the Dons to win 5-4 in Cupertino.
Mari Rodriguez and Anissa Martinez both had two RBIs on two hits a piece. Rodriguez also had a double and a stolen base while Anissa had a triple. Samantha Parraz drove in the other RBI and went 1 for 4 with a run scored.
Erica Baxter was the winning pitcher and went the distance for the Rams. She allowed four runs on seven hits and walked three.
Gavilan (7-21 overall, 2-8 in conference) will be back in action at 3 p.m. Tuesday to host City College of San Francisco.
