The Gilroy Chaos 12-and-under softball team won the Fall Ball State Championship Tournament in Elk Grove last weekend, going undefeated in five games.

Outscoring their opponents 34-11 over the course of the tournament, the Chaos’ title resulted in a berth to the World Series that will be in held in July of 2009.

Gilroy beat the Vacaville Cruisers twice, 8-4 in the first game and 6-2 in the second, to cap their run past other Northern California club teams. The Chaos topped the Tracy Titans 8-2 in the first game of the tournament, the California Bandits 5-0 in the second contest and the Manteca Unity 7-3 in the third.

Holly Lam led all pitchers with 20 strikeouts in 3 1/2 games, while Mackenzie Mitchell was solid behind the plate in all five games.

Gilroy got big performances at the plate from Crissy Simpson, who was 4-for-4 with two RBI in the 6-2 championship game victory over the Vacavile Cruisers, and Mariza Rodriguez had 6 RBI overall.

Raeanna Covarrubias, Nicole Green and Victoria Vasquez, who each had two RBI on the weekend.
