County Registrar goes online

Where to find it: San Benito County Registrar of Voters – www.sbcvote.us/

Who runs the site: The sign is run by the County Registrar of Voters office and has been updated since Joe Paul Gonzalez became clerk, auditor, recorder in Jan. 2007.

Who is likely to use the site: Residents looking for the latest voter information – the first local election results to be posted online went live Nov. 6. In addition, people who are looking for information on getting a passport, marriage license, or birth certificate will also find the site useful.

Pros: The site is easy to navigate and has useful information that can eliminate trips to the clerk, auditor, recorders office. Many forms are available for download from the site, such as a fictitious business license application, a form to request a copy of a marriage license or even a birth or death certificate.

The site also has information for political candidates interested in running for office or residents who are interested in seeing the results of the latest election. So far the only election results posted are the results for Hollister’s Nov. 6 election.

The Web site has a link for county financial information as well, but the most recent budget listed is 2005-2006 and the county is now in the 2007-2008 fiscal year.

A note from Gonzalez says the site will include news and updates on legislative actions that affect the county, but the link is still under construction now.

Cons: Some of the secondary pages have links to other sections of the site or to the main page that are not activated, so navigation back can be a little bit difficult. Overall, though, the site is a great first step in bringing San Benito’s Registrar of Voters office online – since some other counties have been online for ages now.
