Who is likely to use the site: People who are into sports or fitness and want a way to find events close to them, or who want tips on getting started with different activities.
Pros: The site has a lot of different features and that can be overwhelming for first-time users, but after some time browsing it gets easier. One of the best things about the site is that users who want to search for events in their area can just type in the name of their city and state into the search engine at the top of the home page. A search for Hollister, Calif., reveals six upcoming events, including the Condor Classic bike tour of San Benito County in October.
Active.com also offers plenty of tips for people who are just getting started. The site has plenty of articles from things such as a parent’s guide to Little League All-Stars or how to train as a first-time triathlete. The site even offers a free training log so that athletes can log their time spent doing everything from weight training to running online. There is an upgraded log that costs $9.95 a month. Users who were happy with their results have posted testimonials on the site.
Cons: There is a lot of information on the site as stated above, and it takes a while to get used to all the options. Also, the page is not formatted to fit on the screen of all computers, so that requires a little scrolling around to see what’s on the right side of the page.
