Who runs the site: Kimberly Fulcher founded Compass, and the site says she did it based on real-life experience. She was a working mother, career-woman and wife, but she wasn’t happy. After reading self-help books she came up with the idea of creating an option that could be tailored to the needs of individual women.

Who is likely to use the site: Women who are looking for some help in figuring out what they want to do in their lives, whether it has to do with relationships, work or personal issues and would like someone to help coach them along.

Pros: Once users sign up for a free account, they can access a free “Complete Life Balance” kit. It is basically a 17-page PDF that takes users through some steps that will help them figure out what their priorities are in life and what priorities they want to spend more time on.

Other lectures are available for free in the form of coachcasts, basically a podcast by one of the network coaches, and blogs.

In addition users get access to a phone number and access code for a monthly conference call. Each month focuses on a different topic and users get what is called a Compass MAP, or monthly action plan. For June the discussion is about healthy living and healthy habits, though to gain full access, users need to pay for a membership.

Cons: To get the most from the site, people definitely need to sign up for one of the premium accounts, which comes with a monthly charge. And parts of the site really feel more like an ad to get women to the live events or to sign up for training to become a coach themselves, so it can feel more like a sales pitch than a resources. Still, it could be useful for someone who wants some help with self-help.
