There was no letdown for the San Benito boys’ golf team.

One day removed from its biggest Tri-County Athletic League Tournament win in years, in which it defeated Palma for the first time in at least four seasons with a team score of 196, the Balers welcomed Atwater to the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club on Tuesday for a non-league match, and delivered a season-low score.

Behind a 1-under 35 from Will Cross, San Benito carded a team score of 195 and defeated visiting Atwater’s 235 by a comfortable 40 strokes on Tuesday.

The two teams played on the “Old Original 9,” which is made up of holes 1-6, 16, 17 and 18 of the Diablo Course at Ridgemark.

It was the first time the Balers had competed on their home course this season, and, as it often has in years past, the team’s familiarity with the Hollister course yielded a season-low output.

On Monday, San Benito tied its previous season-low with a 196 at the Salinas Golf and Country Club. It also shot a 196 at Carmel Valley Ranch on Feb. 23.

But Tuesday’s low, which was anchored by Cross’ 35, saw a total of three players all score in the 30s, as both Jared Lantis and Nathan Winn each carded a 39 for San Benito.

Ryan Han’s 40 then followed, while senior Jade Kimura rounded out the team’s scoring with a 42.

Tony Ramos also competed, recording a 45 for the Balers.

With next Tuesday’s match against Carmel recently canceled, the Balers’ next meet will come on Thursday, March 17, in the third installment of the TCAL Tournament.

It is expected to be a key meeting for both San Benito and Palma, which currently sit tied in the TCAL standings, each with a first-place and second-place finish this season.

The tournament will be held at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club. Tee time is 3 p.m.
