Despite carding one of its best scores in recent weeks, the San Benito High girls golf team couldn’t keep pace with visiting Salinas Tuesday at the Ridgemark Golf and Country Club in Hollister, and lost by a 169-199 margin.
One week removed from shooting its highest score of the season – a 212 against Santa Catalina last week – the Lady Balers returned to a sub-200 score behind freshman Emiley Palmquist and LaShea Dailey.
“I’m not disappointed at all,” San Benito head coach Chris Branon said. “I would like to see high 40s, and we’re only one or two steps away.”
Palmquist led San Benito with a 48 and Dailey followed with a 49, but Salinas managed to remain undefeated on the season behind its top three golfers – Taylor Camany and the Dominguez sisters, Keegan and Taylor.
It was Taylor who medaled the round Tuesday with a 37, while Keegan shot a 39 and Camany a 38 on holes No. 2-10 of the Gabilan Course.
With wins over powerhouses like Santa Catalina and Stevenson already this season, the Cowboys’ top three golfers have positioned Salinas atop the Tri-County Athletic League as the team to beat.
Rounding out San Benito, meanwhile, was Jordan Davies and Jenny Glosser, each of whom carded matching 51s, while Yumi Kimura shot a 52.
Nicole Rianda recorded a 53 for the Lady Balers.
The Lady Balers will play Pacific Grove Thursday at Poppy Hills Golf Course. Tee time is 3:30 p.m.
