Victor Gomez has a 100-vote gap to fill in the District 4 county board race heading into November, but he will have extra time and a bigger turnout on his side for the General Election.
Gomez is challenging incumbent Supervisor Jerry Muenzer for the District 4 seat. The two beat out Daniel Recht to advance to a runoff. In the latest election results released Wednesday, Muenzer had gained 984 votes to 884 for Gomez – representing a margin of 42.69 percent to 38.35 percent. Recht gained 18.7 percent.
Muenzer and Gomez will vie for Recht’s votes along with those from an expected jump in turnout. In the 2010 election cycle, turnout increased from 45 percent to 62 percent between June and November.
In looking at initial election data, Gomez felt he had an edge among voters at the polls with an expectation for an increase in the proportion of those voters in the fall.
“Looking at the demographics of the district, it looks really good for us in November,” Gomez said after last Tuesday’s primary.
Muenzer, seeking a second term, said in the aftermath of the primary that he was pleased with the results.
“I appreciate that it was a clean race again,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the same thing in November.”
Despite the loss, Recht said he was pleased with the change his presence made in the campaigns.
“We were very happy to participate and significantly change the dialogue for the election,” he said.
