Hollister – The county has received a $20,000 federal grant to help residents with AIDS to pay their living expenses.
Each year, the county uses the funds to assist 15 residents with AIDS and related diseases with paying rent, utilities and food costs. The federal Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS funds are administered through the State Office of Aids. The county has received the funds for several years, according to Health and Human Services Director Kathy Flores.
The funds are for low-income residents and residents who are homeless or at risk of being homeless who have been diagnosed with AIDS or HIV-related diseases, according to a report Flores submitted to the county board of supervisors.
