CALLER 1: We had such a positive experience with the Hollister American All-Star 9-10-year-old team. I just wanted to share some thoughts and compliment this very positive program in your community.

Over the past month, we have had several opportunities to observe a shining example of skill and character building for 9- and 10-year-old boys in your community. Our grandson was a part of the All-Star team that progressed through the District and Regional Tournaments to go on and win your state’s Northern Championship Tournament.

We observed practices that were well organized – providing each player skill-building drills and positive feedback, often on a one-to-one basis.

At the beginning of each game, officials, coaches and each player were introduced and applauded.

Introductions were followed by the repetition of the Little League Creed. At each game’s conclusion, handshakes were shared between both teams and coaches. Each tournament concluded with recognition and awards for all players and coaches.

Robert Fabing and his coaching staff are a skilled group of men with both a good grasp of game skills and strategy plus the ability to teach these young players in a way that inspires each boy’s best effort, skill development and sportsmanship without undue pressure.

The parents and families supporting this team were congenial and positive, making our welcome warm and sincere from the outset, leaving us with the warmest of memories and joy that our grandson is growing up in a community with such value for children.

GREEN PHONE: We’re pleased you got such a positive vibe from the Little League 9-10 All-Stars. That particular team seemed to have an almost carefree love of the game – and it showed in their run to the NorCal championship.

CALLER 2: I am a parent that has been involved with Hollister Little League for many years now, both in league play and all-star play. Recently, I followed our American 9-10 All-Stars all the way to their winning the state Championship.

I want to say congratulations to all the players and coaches, but most of all I write to congratulate the players’ parents for truly paving the way for the players to play the game and for the coaches to coach their kids to this state championship.

I sat and watched every game from the first district game against our own National team all the way to the last state championship game.  Not once did I hear a parent complain about playing time, positions their kids were playing or anything negative for that matter.  In fact, I have never seen a group of parents more sincere about cheering for all the kids and not just their own.  They sat together like one happy family and just cheered and cheered the entire way.

These parents should be proud and from the eyes of a parent who, in the past, has seen all the second guessing, the negative banter which can fill the stands and all the sideline coaching that occurs in most of these types of events. It is the parents who were the key to success in this 9-10 All-Star team’s courageous play and accomplishments. It is with their unconditional support that both the players and coaches were able to do their thing without any distractions which allowed them to reach their full potential.

Kudos to each and every parent involved. A class performance to say the least.

And to players Robert Soto, Daniel Gonzales, Josh George, Cody Cameron, Cody Asp, Connor Fabing, Marcos Perez, Maverick Enz, Jordan Lopes, Dylan Yamasaki, Austin Wahl, Tony Diaz and coaches Robert Fabing, Rod George, Al Lopes, Frank Soto, CR Gonzalez and Eric Yamasaki, great job to all of you. Keep up the hard work and I hope to see you repeat it all again two years from now.

GREEN PHONE: We’re glad you took the opportunity to commend such an integral part of youth sports – the parents. Far too often, over-zealous parents make a bad name for boosters. Often, those bad apples are the only ones in the news. Thanks for praising a parental unit that did it right, Caller 2. The frenzied support of the 9-10 team’s parents and other backers certainly gave the All-Stars a boost on the field, too.

CALLER 3: Hi. I’m a pro football fan and I’d just like to tell you that I really enjoy your expanded coverage of the 49ers and Raiders this year. It’s such a great improvement. You’re doing a great job

GREEN PHONE: Thanks, Caller 3. We’re happy that you’re happy. Give us a call back with your picks for the Niners and Raiders this season – and your thoughts on Sunday’s grudge match.
