Caller 1: I’m calling because of your write-up on Friday regarding Hollister-Gilroy “All eyes on the prize.” This is regarding all the scores. I’m a Gilroy parent from ’92 and I just wanted to let you know my son kicked the winning score for 1992. I’m kinda disappointed to see Hollister was shown to be the winner when I know Gilroy was. We’re not very happy about that.
Green Phone: In this case, we actually got our facts right. According to the archives of the Hollister Free Lance, Gilroy’s Albert John Tamez kicked a long, game-winning field goal in 1991, not 1992. The Mustangs took the ’91 Prune Bowl, 17-14, while the Haybalers came back the next year with a 19-15 victory
Caller 2: I was calling because again – I think this is the third week in a row – the Gilroy Browns were not placed in the sports section of the newspaper. And I’m disappointed because all the players that play on all the teams make an effort in practice and in games whether we win or lose. And I think it would be nice to have them in the newspaper again. I’m not sure why you guys would not support a Gilroy team. Thank you.
Green Phone: We’re more than happy to support the Gilroy Browns. We need some help, though. The parents who were sending us information from the games at the beginning of the year found it increasingly difficult to get any info from their coaches. We’ve been in contact with these parents and are hopeful we’ll be able to obtain more pictures and game details for the rest of the season. Any assistance from the coaches would be helpful. And yes, we fully understand and appreciate the fact that these coaches are already sacrificing a whole lot of their time to help coach these kids.
Caller 3: My message is you never put what’s playing at the theaters in town and that’s a disservice to you and to us.
Green Phone: But hey, have you seen that Friday Night Lights? Good stuff. Hopefully it’s playing at a theater near you.
Caller 4: Good morning. Not a big beef, a little beef. I was just wondering why you don’t publish freshmen and JV football results each week with varsity. I don’t expect full coverage, but it would sure be nice if you could do that. I know last week I read an article about the freshmen game and that was pretty spectacular, so I thought we would continue to see a little blurb every Saturday about the freshmen and JV team. I’d sure like to see it. Thank you for listening. Perhaps you can add more to the coverage.
Green Phone: Due to space considerations, we can’t always guarantee the freshmen and junior varsity will be included in Saturday’s sports section. If not, though, they will most certainly be included in Tuesday’s football wrapup package. If they aren’t, let us know about.

Green Phone: Yes, indeed. Gav homecoming will kick off Saturday night at 6 with a student-led tailgate party at San Benito High School in Hollister. An hour later on the field, the Rams football team will take on Hartnell College. The first 750 people through the gate will get free pizza, chips and a drink. And the first 100 students with ASB cards will get a free movie ticket from Platinum Theaters. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and children and free for students with an ASB card. Caller 6: On Tuesday in college roundup, it says “Golden Bears pound UCLA” and you look down and see Stanford 23, Washington State 17, but never give the score between Cal and UCLA. Seems to me I’m missing it or somebody forgot to put the score … put the Stanford score, but not the Cal score. Just thought you’d like to know.
Green Phone: By snubbing the Bears in favor of the Cardinal, we were simply trying to get Berkeley fans fired up for the Big Game. After all, we’re here to serve. And oh, by the way, Cal beat up on the Bruins, 45-28.
