The Baler Education Foundation is looking for new board members. It is a great way to connect with Balers past and present and support Baler educational opportunities.
The foundation is governed by a board of volunteer community members and students. It is the foundation’s mission to provide resources to support and enhance educational programs at San Benito High School. We do this by providing funds—annual mini grants for individual teachers or departments.
We raise money in two ways. First, by selling Baler Bricks. The vision to sell 1,000 Baler Bricks for $1,000 each would establish an endowment fund of $1,000,000 that in turn would allow us to give $50,000 in mini grants annually forever. The Baler Bricks are displayed in the foyer of the main building.
Second, every March we celebrate with an annual Baler Hall of Fame Fest where we induct individuals into The Baler Hall of Fame based on community nominations. This luncheon is both celebration and fundraiser. Individuals are inducted by decade of either their graduation class year or year of service or impact to our community. The luncheon includes a silent auction and a chance to win valuable raffle prizes donated by our local community.
As a teacher, I get to see first-hand the benefits these grants provide our students and teachers at San Benito High School. A few examples of teacher/department mini grants include: Document Cameras for English Teachers, Holocaust Storyteller – Jerry Falek for both English and World Studies, Scientific Calculators for Chemistry, Baler Gifted Cheer uniforms, and more.
We are looking for new board members. We meet once a month from 6 p.m. to7 p.m. at San Benito High School. We meet to review and decide mini grant applications in the fall; we review and decide Baler Hall of Fame nominations in December; and we plan the annual Fame Fest luncheon in March.
